Since 1966, the Indiana Catholic Conference (ICC) has represented the Catholic Church in both state and national issues and served as the public policy voice of the Catholic Church In Indiana.
Our Mission
Indiana Catholic Conference (ICC) is the statewide coordinating body for the five Roman Catholic Dioceses in Indiana. Its basic purpose is to serve the spiritual, moral and material well-being of the people of the state:
by serving as the official spokesperson for the Bishops and Catholic faithful regarding state and national matters
by representing the Church and developing cooperative relationship where common public policy interests exist with religious and civic, social and governmental units
by serving as liaison between the Catholic Church in Indiana and national Catholic groups in areas of common public policy interests.
History and Structure
The Indiana Catholic Action Network (ICAN) was formed in 1978 by action of the ICC Board of Directors, in recognition of the need for Catholics as citizens, to be involved in shaping legislation, much of which intimately affects the daily lives of people in the state. ICC's involvement in the political arena comes from the belief that life is sacred and that all people have a responsibility to respect the dignity of life and to work for the common good of the entire human family. The ICC Board of Directors consists of all Bishops of the Province and a layperson from each diocese appointed by the Bishop. The ICC office is staffed by an Executive Director and an Associate Director.
Issues important to the Church are selected by the ICC Board of Directors for further research. The ICC staff then researches and drafts a position statement based on the teachings of the Church as well as pertinent secular information.

Our Logo
The cross in ICC’s logo has a two-fold meaning and is central to the work of this particular ministry of the Catholic Church in Indiana.
The light arrow piercing into the center expresses the diversified input of members of the Church, their talents, experiences, insights and resources.
That arrow meshes with the cross which represents the institutional structure of the Church, but also symbolizes the infusion of divine grace into the efforts of the humans who make up the Church. Together, these flow into society, depicted by the purple arrow, providing Catholic values and principles to shape and influence the modern world.
Color-wise, the purple symbolizes the royal, kingly priesthood of the People of God.
